The place

The JW in San José is concrete, sand and sky — long lines, pale stone, the Sea of Cortez flat and endless behind it. Architecture like that is unforgiving. It also makes a white dress look like sculpture.

The two of them

Sophia in a full gown, Parker in black tie, and a white flower arch that framed them like a painting. They are composed until they are not — and then the laughing takes over.

The night

Sparklers on the dance floor, a big bold initial painted under their feet, friends pulling them in from every side. Then somebody jumped into the pool. Then everybody did.

What I took with me

Elegant at four, wild at midnight. My favourite kind of wedding.
